On November 30, 2022, the 2023 Audi A5 Coupe earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It was the 15th Audi model to earn the institute's highest rating—the largest total of any automaker in the industry and a testament to Audi's commitment to safety and innovation.

"We put our customers first which means the safety of Audi vehicles is our top priority," stated Audi of America president Daniel Weissland. "We are proud to lead the industry with the most IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards and recognize our amazing Audi engineers that continuously develop, design and test our cars to achieve these high safety standards."

It's no easy feat to garner a Top Safety Pick designation from the IIHS, particularly due to the institute's continually evolving criteria. Most importantly, a vehicle must earn the highest possible score ("Good") in all six crashworthiness evaluations. It also must have a frontal collision mitigation system with an "Advanced" or "Superior" rating and offer available headlights rated "Good" or "Acceptable." The "plus" (+) designation goes a step further, requiring a TSP-rated vehicle to have Good-rated headlights as standard equipment.

The following Audi models earned the highest possible TSP+ rating in 2022:

  • Q4 e-tron (model year (MY) 2022 and 2023)
  • Q4 Sportback e-tron (MY2022 and 2023)
